Examination Entry Terms & Conditions

Last updated: September 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to candidates entered for examinations provided by Taal Examinations. By submitting an examination entry, the candidate, parent/guardian or person making the booking confirms that they have read and accepted these terms.

1. Taal Examinations

Taal Examinations provides graded music examinations and assessments, including a progressive Tabla examination pathway from Initial Grade to Grade 8.

These Terms & Conditions apply to examination bookings, payments, attendance, assessment, results and certification.

2. Examination Entry

Candidates must be entered for the correct examination level. The person submitting the entry is responsible for ensuring all information supplied is complete and accurate, including the candidate’s full name, date of birth, contact information, examination level, teacher information and any requested access arrangements or reasonable adjustments.

The candidate’s name should be entered exactly as it should appear on official examination records and certificates. Taal Examinations may contact the candidate, parent/guardian or teacher to verify information before an entry is confirmed.

3. Candidates Under 18

Where a candidate is under 18, the entry must be made or authorised by their parent, legal guardian or another adult authorised to act on their behalf. The responsible adult must provide appropriate contact information and accept these terms on the candidate’s behalf where applicable.

4. Examination Fees

The current examination fees are:

  • Initial Grade – £50
  • Grade 1 – £65
  • Grade 2 – £70
  • Grade 3 – £75
  • Grade 4 – £80
  • Grade 5 – £90
  • Grade 6 – £100
  • Grade 7 – £120
  • Grade 8 – £140

The applicable fee will be displayed before an entry is submitted. Payment must use an accepted method. An entry is not confirmed until payment has been received and confirmation issued. Fees may change for future sessions but not for an entry already confirmed and paid.

5. What the Examination Fee Includes

Unless otherwise stated, the fee covers candidate registration, the examination or assessment, examiner assessment and marking, result processing, and an applicable certificate following successful completion.

Tuition, preparation and lessons from Taal Music Academy or another teacher are separate. Additional requested services may carry a separately communicated charge.

6. Examination Dates and Times

Candidates will be informed of their date, time and location before the examination and should arrive sufficiently early. Durations are approximate. Taal Examinations may need to change a date, time, examiner or venue due to circumstances outside its reasonable control and will make reasonable efforts to provide an alternative.

7. Late Arrival

Candidates are responsible for arriving at the stated time. Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate late arrival where the timetable permits, but an examination may not be possible if a candidate arrives significantly late.

8. Cancellation, Withdrawal and Refunds

Candidates wishing to withdraw should contact Taal Examinations promptly. Any refund depends on the circumstances, timing and applicable consumer rights.

If Taal Examinations cancels and cannot provide a reasonable alternative, an appropriate alternative or refund will be offered. Nothing in these terms limits statutory rights under UK law. A separate Cancellation and Refund Policy may provide further deadlines, transfer and refund information.

9. Illness and Exceptional Circumstances

If a candidate cannot attend because of illness, bereavement, emergency or another serious circumstance, the candidate or parent/guardian should contact Taal Examinations as soon as reasonably possible. Reasonable supporting information may be requested. Each request will be considered fairly and individually.

10. Reasonable Adjustments and Access Arrangements

Taal Examinations aims to provide fair access. A disability, medical condition, learning difficulty or other need requiring an adjustment should be disclosed during entry or as early as possible. Further information may be requested to understand and implement an appropriate arrangement.

Any adjustment must maintain assessment integrity and must not change the knowledge, skills or musical ability being assessed.

11. Examination Requirements

Candidates are responsible for preparing the syllabus and repertoire for their level, bringing specified instruments, music, documents or materials, and following reasonable instructions from the examiner or examination staff.

12. Instruments and Equipment

Candidates must ensure that instruments or equipment they bring are suitable and safe. Where Taal Examinations provides equipment or accompaniment facilities, reasonable efforts will be made to ensure suitability. Specific requirements should be notified in advance.

13. Examination Conduct

Candidates must behave respectfully. Cheating, impersonation, falsification, unauthorised assistance, disruption or other conduct compromising examination integrity may lead to the examination being stopped, investigated or declared invalid.

14. Assessment

Candidates are assessed against the published requirements and criteria for their examination. A result represents the examiner’s assessment of the performance demonstrated during that assessment. A teacher’s recommendation does not guarantee a particular result.

15. Results

Results will be issued after examination, assessment and quality-assurance processes. Taal Examinations will endeavour to meet published timescales but may require additional time for assessment or administrative checks. Results will normally use the specified communication method.

16. Certificates

Where applicable, successful candidates receive a certificate. Candidate names must be entered correctly. A communicated administrative charge may apply to replacement certificates or corrections required because incorrect information was supplied during registration.

17. Appeals, Reviews and Complaints

Candidates may raise concerns about examination administration. Taal Examinations will maintain procedures for complaints and, where applicable, result reviews and appeals. Requests must follow the relevant procedure and deadline. A review or appeal does not automatically change a result.

18. Conflicts of Interest

Taal Examinations will take reasonable steps to identify and manage conflicts relating to examination delivery and assessment. Measures may include changing the examiner, additional review or moderation, or another proportionate action.

19. Examination Integrity

Taal Examinations may investigate suspected malpractice, maladministration or other circumstances compromising an examination or result. Results or certificates may be withheld during an investigation. Any action will be proportionate and follow applicable procedures.

20. Photography and Recording

Candidates, parents and visitors must not photograph, film or record an examination without prior permission. Separate appropriate permission will be obtained for promotional photography or recording; this consent is not a condition of entry.

21. Personal Information

Registration information will be processed under the Taal Examinations Privacy Notice and applicable data protection law. Information may be shared with examiners, administrators, service providers or other parties where necessary to administer and quality-assure examinations.

22. Intellectual Property

The Taal Examinations name, branding, logos, syllabuses, examination materials and original content may be protected by intellectual property rights. Confidential assessment content must not be copied, distributed, published, uploaded or reproduced without permission except where law permits.

23. Changes to Examination Requirements

Taal Examinations may update syllabuses, requirements, policies, fees or procedures. Candidates are assessed against the requirements applicable to their entry. Reasonable notice will be given where significant changes affect an existing entry.

24. Liability

Taal Examinations will take reasonable care in delivering its services. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK consumer law.

25. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Nothing affects mandatory rights a consumer may have under applicable law.
